Myth:  Contract facilities operate with minimal accountability.

Fact:

Contracted facilities, in fact, operate with significant levels of accountability and transparency. Unlike government-run facilities, contract facilities provide greater accountability because they are governed by detailed operating contracts. Further, they typically have on-site, full-time contract monitors who are employed by the government to oversee the daily compliance of the contract requirements.

Additionally, contracted facilities are reviewed and audited by government agencies, both on a routine and unannounced basis, as well as by third-party accreditation entities like the American Correctional Association and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.

Myth:  Contract facilities are not beholden to federal standards found in state or federal facilities.

Fact:

Contract facilities are held to the national standards set forth by the Bureau of Prisons and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. In fact, each GEO Group facility has two BOP onsite monitors and a BOP Contracting Officer to oversee compliance of these standards.
